The battle lines

Same twelve men. Same two teams. One of them is defending something for the first time in the history of this trip — and the other has spent eleven months thinking about one shot on the eighteenth.

How it's won

Three days. Two courses. One Cup.

Every hole is worth two points. The putts are worth one more. Tie a hole and nothing is lost — the points ride to the next one and keep stacking until somebody takes them. Which is how a single hole ends up worth eighty-four.

Wed 16

Opening Round

Seaview Pines · 11:00 AM

Two-man shamble. Everybody tees off, the team takes the best drive, then each man plays his own ball in. Captains submit pairings in sealed envelopes the night before and reveal them together.

Thu 17

The Marathon

Seaview Bay

The long day. Alternate shot in the morning, when a bad swing is your partner's problem too. Scramble in the afternoon, when the legs are gone and the light is going.

Fri 18

The Two-Front Battle

Seaview Pines

Everything changes. Two men go to the Duel and four to the team scramble, and the points multiply. More than half the tournament is decided in a single afternoon.

Duel ×3 · Team ×6

Why this one matters

It came down to one hole, and nobody won it

GRIT 511GLORY 412

Glory won the opening day. Thursday finished level to the point — 131 apiece. And when the last group reached the eighteenth green of the championship match, eighty-four points were riding on that one hole.

Glory were off the green, looking to hole it and take the lot. They didn't hole it. They got down in one for the five, the hole was halved, and the points were split down the middle.

Hole that shot and the Cup finishes 469 to 454.
